Frequently Asked Questions
Propane
-
Yes, propane is extremely safe both for the environment and humans. Unlike gasoline and other alcohol-based fuels, it cannot be ingested. It is non-toxic and releases as a vapor in the event of a leak, preventing it from contaminating soil and groundwater. Even the odorant added to give propane its signature sulfuric smell, called mercaptan, is completely harmless.
-
Propane is the best alternative for creating an environmentally friendly space in and around your home. It is one of the cleanest burning fuels available, producing low levels of carbon dioxide and no trace of sulfur dioxide. Compared to gasoline, propane has less of an effect on greenhouse gases and automatically guarantees safety if there is a leak due to its vaporization.
-
Due to the way it is stored and its chemical makeup, propane has an endless shelf life. It will be ready to use no matter how long ago your tank was filled. While propane itself lasts a lifetime, it is crucial to keep the tank in good condition.
-
Yes, the price of propane changes by the day. This can stem from a number of factors such as demand, weather conditions, and individual usage. If you would like to know today’s price for propane, call the office.
Propane Tanks
-
Lift the lid on the top of the tank and look for a small round gauge. The arrow points to a number that indicates the percentage of gas remaining in the tank. A full tank of propane will read 80%.
-
Standard practice for propane providers is to fill the tank to 80% full. This allows for the propane to expand while inside of the tank. Filling any more than this is considered a safety hazard.
-
Choosing the right size tank for your property depends on several factors including the number of connected appliances, square footage, general usage, etc. Call the office today if you have any questions.
-
Choosing between an aboveground or underground propane tank depends on your personal preference as well as your budget and property conditions. We will have our estimator examine your property to determine the best location for your tank. Please visit our Propane Tanks page for more information on the difference between aboveground and underground tanks!
